What Are Your Weaknesses Part 2

Welcome to Sell  Like Mercury!

The one platform dedicated to helping students and freshers land their dream jobs in reputed companies with excellent pay.

We will break down one of the most dreaded yet crucial interview questions: “What are your weaknesses?” This is part two of our deep dive into this topic, so if you haven’t watched the first part yet, we highly recommend you do so. Understanding the why behind this question is just as important as crafting the perfect answer.

Why Do Interviewers Ask About Your Weaknesses?

Many candidates misunderstand the purpose of this question. It’s not designed to trick you or expose your flaws. Instead, interviewers want to see:

✅ Self-awareness – Do you know your weaknesses?
✅ Growth mindset – Are you actively working to improve?
✅ Honesty – Can you be real about your areas of development?

One of our students, whom we’ll call Ravi, successfully answered this question, and landed a prestigious job offer from an international bank. Let us see how he crafted his response.

A Winning Example: Ravi’s Weakness Pitch

Ravi realized, through self-reflection and feedback from friends, that he had a habit of mocking others without considering their feelings. Instead of ignoring it, he embraced it and built a response that impressed the interviewer.

His answer:

“There’s a famous incident from World War II. Winston Churchill was in a social gathering when his bitter rival, Lady Astor, looked at him and said, ‘Winston, if I were your wife, I’d poison your coffee.’ Churchill, without missing a beat, responded, ‘Madam, if I were your husband, I’d drink it.’

I have that kind of quick wit—it comes naturally to me. In any gathering, people flock around me to hear my jokes and stories. But in that process, I have sometimes offended people without realizing it. My close friends pointed this out to me, and I took it seriously. Today, I would say I’m about 35% better. I still have a long way to go, but I’m actively working on it by reading the room and applying filters when it’s necessary.”

💡 Why this works:
✔ Honest and self-aware
✔ Uses humour to engage the interviewer
✔ Shows improvement and willingness to learn

The interviewer smiled at his response, and Ravi went on to receive an excellent job offer. This is the power of differentiating yourself!

The Bigger Picture: Why Sell Like Mercury Exists

My name is Sai Prasad, CEO & Founder of Sell Like Mercury. After spending 15 years in the corporate world as a Senior VP in a major software company, I noticed a massive gap between what colleges teach and what employers need.

🚨 The problem?
🔹 Colleges fail to prepare students for real-world job challenges.
🔹 Placement numbers either look bad or appear good on paper, but salaries are too low to justify the education cost.

🎯 The solution?
I created three specialized courses focused on:
✅ Corporate Communication
✅ Group Discussions
✅ Interview Preparation

Each course follows a simple but powerful theme: Differentiate or Die.

🚀 If you want to stand out and land high-paying jobs, you must develop skills that set you apart. Our courses dive deep—spending hours on each interview topic—so you don’t just memorize answers but master the art of interview success.
